REFLECTING ON A BIG DAY AT KROGER FIELD

Did You Bundle Up?

There is always an adjustment to that first cold weather game of the season.  How cold will I be?  How many layers do I need?  When in doubt, do like we do and throw everything you own that is UK (except  short sleeve tee shirts)  into the back seat and head to the game.  I had a previous post about cold weather gear for UK games and even saw a couple of dudes wearing the sportscoat mentioned in that post.  Heaters and fires were popular in the parking lots of Kroger Field last Saturday if you weren't sitting inside your vehicle.

You May Want To Try This At The Next Cold Weather Game

The first thing we did upon arriving in the Orange Lot was head to the Bluegrass RV Lot.  This is an area right between the end of the Orange Lot and Nicholasville Road.  The KSR guys do their pregame from there but, more importantly, there are a number of RV's that are open to sit inside and warm up.  They always have a complimentary food spread and for this cold weather game they had made some chili, which we gladly consumed in the warmth of one of the RV's.

Our First Visit To The Kroger Tailgate Tent

One of the new features at UK Football this season has been the addition of the Kroger Tailgate Tent.  I am not sure what this tent has been like on previous gamedays, but for this cold Saturday the heated tent was a popular spot.  The Kroger Tent allows folks who bring a receipt showing that they have spent $100 or more in the past week at a Kroger store entry for up to 4 people per receipt.  I was impressed with the variety and amount of food and drinks available.  They also handed those over age 21 two  beer tickets.  My wife fixed a plate of ribs with sides , while I opted for the chicken breast.  We will be planning our grocery visits closer to home games from now on, money well spent.

A Great Ending To The Game

Once we got into Kroger Field the cold was more tolerable once we were surronded by other Cats fans.  The game, unfortunately, was not as tolerable for the majority of the time.  Both teams shot themselves in the foot numerous times.  Kentucky gave Tennessee way too many chances by turning it over four times, but UT did us a favor by drawing big penalties each time they threatened to score.  None of that mattered in the end though as UK pulled what turned out to be an exciting game winning drive.  Tennessee worked the ball to midfield for a desperation heave but came up a few yards short and now the Cats and their fans can start thinking about bowl game plans.   Before I wrap this thing up, here's that Stephen Johnson game winner.  Thanks for reading, Go Cats!
