PLANNING FOR MUSIC CITY

Wildcats Headed to Music City Bowl?

Bowl season is upon us and our Kenutkcy Wildcats are going bowling for a second consecutive season.   It's hard to get excited about UK football after the embarassing display against the Cards last Saturday.  It can even be argued that the season was a bit of a disappointment when 7-5 could've easily been 9-3 and a higher tier bowl game.   Bowl projections have Kentucky landing in either the Music City Bowl or the Liberty Bowl with most of the chatter leaning towards Nashville.  Nashville has always been a great location for Cat fans, and the short drive for a Friday afternoon game may be the one option that the BBN needs to get rid of the bad taste of the Louisville loss.   Ironically, the basketball Cats face Louisville that Friday a few hours before the Music City Bowl kickoff.

Make Your Plans Before The Sunday Announcement

Weekend hotel rates are outrageous for almost any weekend in Nashville.  If you want to get a jump on any additional bookings, it may be in your best interest to grab that room now. You can do a quick check of rates at www.TripAdvisor.com .  The first Sunday in December is when bowl game matchups are announced.  At the time of this post , I found most downtown Nashville rooms to be a little below what I'm used to seeing. I particularly like the rate that I found at the Renaisssance downtown.  Add a Big Ten fanbase to the mix and those rates will likely rise once the announcements are final.   Most hotels will offer a fully refundable cancellation policy but they could vary from 24 hours prior to 2 weeks prior to arrival.  With the kickoff being at 3:30 most UK fans can make it to Nashville leaving from their Kentucky homes in the morning.  Keep in mind, you may want to hook up with Kentucky fans watching the basketball game against the Cards which tips at noon CMT.  If you have Friday off, I would suggest booking Thursday night through Saturday and, if booking 2 nights,  save yourself a little cash that way.

Stay Flexible

Of course, there is always the chance that the Cats are selected for the Liberty Bowl in Memphis.  That's why it is important to get a  room that has a full cancel policy.  In fact, I would suggest using the same booking strategy for Memphis but  adjust the booking dates to Friday through Sunday for that early Saturday kickoff in Memphis.  You should have a little better luck finding a resonable rate in Memphis, especially if the opponent ends up being the hometown Memphis Tigers as some sites have predicted.   Whether Sunday's announcement has the Cats going to Nashville or Memphis,  I expect UK WIldcat fans to fill the hotels, restaurants and bars and that is always a good time regardless of the host city.   Thanks for reading…safe travels…Go Cats!!
