Which Road Trip to Take
There are a number of dedicated diehard football fans out there that have the time and the funds to follow their favorite team no matter the destination. For fans of Southerastern Conference teams it gives those devotees a chance to visit stadiums rich in tradition and likely a glimpse of a player on the Heisman candidate list. Kentucky fans will have five road trips to consider during the regular season and hopefully somewhere warm to travel to for a postseason bowl game. I'll be focusing my personal sights on the Vandy road trip as it presents an opportunity to catch The Wildcats and the Cincinnati Bengals that weekend in Nashville. I do, however, want to take a look at the other road trip options as they get closer.
Road Opener
I'm not referring to the tool you have stashed in your glove box so you're buddies can open their bottled beverage on your way to the game. The Wildcats start their football season on the road in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. A quick search today on the interweb tells me this could be a relatively inexpensive trip for those wishing to follow the Big Blue. There are some Marriott properties nearby that would put you about a mile away from the stadium. As of August 1, The Residence Inn is at the high end of rates at $209. I'd suggest the Fairfield Inn in the same area which is currently at $136/night.
Ticket Hunt
I am usually a fan of waiting until gameday and purchace a ticket using the Stubhub or Seatgeek app. I was a little surprised at the lack of selection for this game that is still roughly a month away. With this being a smaller stadium, (36,000 capacity) it may be a good move to go ahead and secure your tickets. Stubhub has tickets beginning at $52 prior to fees. The Seatgeek app has them starting at $64 but I typically find the fees to be lower than some of the other secondary market ticket apps.
Are We Ready?
With a little over four weeks make sure you have your car, SUV, RV, or whatever mode of transportation you favor, tuned and ready. It's also a good time to take a look at your UK gear. It may be time to replace that UK2k shirt with something less dated. I'm always looking for a new shirt to add to the rotation and NCAA Kentucky Wildcats Adult Men RoadTrip Relaxed Cap,Adjustable,Royal at the top will get some consideration from me. I'll be keeping an eye on the hotel and ticket prices as the game grows closer and will post any changes. Until then, enjoy what's left of summer and thanks for reading. Go Cats!
