In October of 1972 my parents attended a World Series game between the Cincinnati Reds and Oakland Athletics. I know this because they have the photo taken from under the centerfield scoreboard. If you look closely you can see a red and white dot in the batter's box and I've been told that it's Johnny Bench. I suppose my love of sports were passed down from Mom and Dad . I don't remember that particular game, but it wasn't too long after that I started building sports memories to last a lifetime. Those preteen summers were spent rooting for The Big Red Machine. By the late 70's free agency was leaving it's mark on my favorite team and I was needing to fill a void. Along came UK basketball. Dad was a UK grad and I can still picture him laying on the living room floor with his giant headphones on plugged into the stereo and listening to Cawood…pregame, game and post game. That's how it begins for many of us in the Bluegrass State and if you're reading this post I'm sure you can relate.
Let's Go to the Game
Since then I've been able to put together a long career in the travel industry which has given me the ability to get to some great games and events over the years. For me, the games themselves are only a part of the travel experience. From UK football tailgating at CWS (are we calling this Kroger Field yet?) to deep NCAA tournament runs, the opportunity to meet and hang out with BBN is my favorite part. Ever since my first SEC Tournament I've willingly taken on the task of arranging accomodations and tickets for our growing group. This blog gives me the opportunity to share information and experiences with BBN(or just the 4 or 5 family and friends reading this) and hope to hear your insights as well.
It's Not All About the Ball
Working 30 years with a major airline tends to give you the travel bug. While the focus of this blog may be on getting to KentuckyWildcat sporting events, we'll look into other events and travel in general. I've worn a path(or jet stream in this case) from CVG to LAS and FLL and can share those stories(most of them anyway). If you've found your way to this page I hope you will follow along and even share some travel insights and stories here as I am always willing to talk travel and share some tips with others. Thanks for taking a few moments to read through my first post.
