QUICK TRIP: ELVIS WEEK IN MEMPHIS

Going To Graceland

Being a fan of University of Kentucky athletics, I am quite  familiar with loyal fan bases.   The  Elvis Presley fan base , while growing older, is still a very loyal one and  many are expected to visit Memphis over the next week.   This coming week marks the 40th anniversary of Elvis’ death and, if you have any memories of 1977, you likely remeber where you were when you heard the news.  It was one of those moments.

Last Minute Options

A quick look at www.booking.com shows that there are a still a number of hotel options in and around Memphis. Many of the nightly rates are trending higher than normal,  but that’s to be expected for this landmark Elvis anniversary.   If you don’t mind the short drive to Tunica, Mississippi,  there are some great rates at the www.Totalrewards.com casino hotels.

Plan Your Week Around Elvis

There are a number of different events going on in Memphis through next weekend.  You can find a list of events here http://www.memphistravel.com/elvis-week-2017.  The Graceland website is another good landing spot for Elvis fans looking to do Elvis things.  They also have a live cam where you can moniter the crowds visiting the former home of Elvis and his family.  Check it out here https://www.graceland.com/connect/gracelandcam.aspx.   Finally,  for those who prefer their Elvis from the comfort  of their own Jungle Room, there will be no shortage of Elvis programming on the tube this week.   Take a look at http://www.tvguide.com/celebrities/elvis-presley/tv-listings/149192/ and set your Betamax accordingly.

Memories Of Elvis

Whether your memory of Elvis occurred during his lifetime, or it was just from videos that you’ve seen over the years,  you lilely have your favorite version of the man once called the King of Rock n Roll.  Do you prefer 50’s Elvis or Vegas Elvis?  While you’re slipping on your blue suede shoes to head to Memphis,  I’ll  leave you with the version in beween those eras from the ’68 Comeback Special.   Thanks for reading.
