How Much For One Game?
The other day Stubhub tweeted out the average sale price on their website for some of the NCAA Football season openers. At the top of the list was the marquee matchup of Florida State vs. Alabama. It's no surprise that this is the game at the top of the list since it will likely be a matchup of top five teams. Throw in the fact that they are opening the brand new Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta and you have the makings of a high demand ticket. As of Monday, the average price for tickets sold to this game was $894.
Perspective From A UK Fan's Point Of View
Let's take a look at what a UK Football fan can do with that same amount. If you wanted benchback seats in the lower level, you could buy a pair for the season and include a K Fund donation. You could get 3 tickets to every game at Kroger Field at $240 apiece in the North corner and have money left over to get your Kroger Meal Deal. You get the point. Let me say that I am glad that UK Football is still an affordable option, but I would hope that one day our program gets to the point where we can talk about high demand for our tickets too. Regardless, I will be sitting this one out at that price, but I do hope to hear from my good friend https://twitter.com/TrvlngSportFan who usually finds his way in to these type of events.
Other High Demand Games
Looking to save some coin? The Georgia at Notre Dame game will only set you back an average of $736. (I'm putting the Dawgs on upset alert in their first game against Appalachian St. which could drive down that asking price.) By comparison, Buckeye fans would appear to get off easy. The problem is that they appear twice on this list at the third and fourth highest average costs. The Michigan game comes in at $412 with the Oklahoma game right behind at $400.
Is It Worth It?
Value, like beauty, is in the eye of the beholder. The price I paid for, let's say for example, a seat built on the stage for a Rolling Stones concert might seem outrageous to you, but to me it was a once in a lifetime chance. That being said, these average prices for tickets sold seems a bit high for an early season game. NCAA football playoff games, not so crazy. Early season contests, slightly insane. These are , however, some great matchups with large fan bases and us Kentucky fans know a little about being over the top. I will be looking forward to these games, from my recliner, and saving my money by going to Kroger (Field). Thanks for reading.
