PREDICTION TIME: WILDCATS IN HATTIESBURG

Let's Talk About The Weather

The kickoff to the UK Football season is now just two days away and that means predictions.  When I think of predictions, I think of either weather predictions, game result predictions or Nostradamus predictions.   I don't think there is any interpretation of Nostradamus' writings that gave the final score for the Kentucky Football game at Southern Mississippi, so we will just give our own gameday predictions.   The remnants of Tropical Storm Harvey will have passed the area by , but it is  going to be toasty.  The foreceast calls for partly cloudy skies and highs around 87 degrees.  If that doesn't sound bad, consider the real feel prediction of 100 degrees.

Tailgating With The Golden Eagles

Anyone who has tailgated around Commonwe…umm..Kroger Field knows that parking is at a premium without a parking pass.  The parking  situation in Hattiesburg should be much easier.  From everything that I've heard or read,  fans that have experience with Southern Miss Football would tell you that you won't find the restrictions that you do on gameday in Lexington.   The scene around M.M.Roberts stadium , or The Rock as their fan base calls it,  looks to be pretty decent.  While maybe not as large of a tailgating scene in the SEC, it is a D1 school in the south so I'm sure they know how to do Saturdays.  Be prepared to drink everytime you hear the name Favre mentioned and stay hydrated.  Did I mention it was going to be hot?

Who Wins?

There are dozens of sites that will give you the individual matchups and breakdowns, this is not one of them.  There are a few things I know for certain about Saturday.  They have a great running back in Ito Smith who will get a lot of touches.   I know Jordan Jones will make a lot of tackles and Benny Snell will run hard.  With all of the roster turnover in college football, there are just too many unknowns going into the first week of the season.   My very general prediction is based on very general knowledge.  The Cats will have an overall edge with depth and that will be a big factor with the heat on the field.  Did I mention it was going to be hot?   If you're prepared for the heat, I think this will be an enjoyable Saturday for Cat fans that make the trip.  I will leave you with a taste of what to expect from the tailgate scene in Hattiesburg.   Safe travels and Go Cats!!
